A Jog Lever is
an electromechanical device that is designed to communicate the (directional)
steering intentions of a Ship's Pilot to the ship's steering gear. Jog Levers
are available in two distinct capacities: Full Follow -Up (FFU), and Non Follow-Up (NFU). A Full Follow-Up Jog Lever maintains the degree of rudder
direction selected, and a Non-Full Follow-Up returns the rudder to zero state
position.
Often a Jog lever will be a component of a
Marine Autopilot system, but
it may exist as a component of a power steering mechanism as well.
