Local well-established land-mobile radio company in Fife/Tacoma area is seeking an experienced electronics 12v installer who wants to train to be a full-fledged two way radio technician. You would start the job installing electronics in vehicles. Possibly also do marine installations.

Duties:

Install 12v land-mobile and surveillance equipment in:

  • Police vehicles
  • School buses
  • Trucks
  • Buildings
  • Bridges
  • Towers.
  • Follow instructions from Radio Technicians on where and how to install equipment.
  • Maintain organized, clean and serviced work environment, including tools, company vehicles and other equipment.
Qualifications:

  • Team Player: Excellent communication skills, ability to listen to the senior technicians and support the rest of the team
  • Motivated, industrious and meticulous.
  • Min. 2 years of installation experience, for example installing car audio or marine Electronics
  • Clean driving record, no Criminal or drug offenses, valid driver’s license
  • Must be willing to work overtime (1.5X and 2X).
  • Must have good hand tools. Power/specialty tools supplied.

This position has long term career growth into a radio technician. It would require the individual to become trained & certified by Motorola over a period of time (2-3 years).

Journeyman Land-Mobile Radio Technician

Puget Sound Instrument, a well-established two-way radio and wireless communications dealer in Tacoma, WA, seeks a qualified and experienced Radio Technician to install, repair, align and maintain two-way radio communication systems in Puget Sound area.

The Journeyman Radio Technician performs system design, troubleshoots, programs, and installs radio equipment and systems, including but not limited to Motorola Solutions, ICOM, and Vertex Standard systems. This position is also responsible for optimizing, maintaining, and repairing complex 2-way and wireless communications systems. Successful candidates must be motivated, customer service oriented and professional in appearance.

Responsibilities:

  •  Install and provide technical support for VHF/UHF and 800/900 MHz analog and digital systems, mobile and portable subscriber equipment, simulcast, conventional, trunked radio systems, dispatch consoles, paging infrastructure.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, discuss, and resolve wireless communication equipment questions and problems with customers in a positive and efficient manner in person on customer’s site or at Puget Sound Instrument’ shop location.
  • Diagnose and repair public address systems and BDA systems.
  • Analyze and comprehend diagnostic test results in order to repair and program radios and wireless equipment
  • To properly support our customers, technicians will be required to be on rotating call, which includes overtime with little or no notice.

Experience and Certifications:

  • The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience in the radio and communication area, extensive knowledge/understanding of two-way radio theory and communications systems.
  • Experience with Motorola MOTOTRBO is highly desirable
  • The ability to program, troubleshoot and perform system diagnostics on complex radio systems.
  • Experience in diagnostics, repair, maintenance, program wireless communication equipment such as 2-way radios, transmitters, receivers, antennas for customers.
  • Knowledge of battery backup systems, base stations, repeaters, multi-couplers and duplexers, basic networking skills.
